The Bewitching Moon

We enjoyed a spectacular sunset this evening and now have a cold, clear sky with stars.
The waxing moon put in a very brief appearance and the crescent was so bright, I couldn't resist a photo.  I tried various settings (I've not had any previous experience at photographing the night sky), if anyone has any helpful tips on getting a good shot of the moon please let me know!

In awe, I watched the waxing moon ride across the zenith of the heavens like an ambered chariot towards the ebony void of infinite space wherein the tethered belts of Jupiter and Mars hang, for ever festooned in their orbital majesty. And as I looked at all this I thought... I must put a roof on this toilet
