Area Winners

Tonight we were back at the Heriot-Watt to watch the East Area Final of the Rotary Young musician of the Year competition.

All 17 competitors showed a high standard of musicianship, and the adjudicators, (vocal) Emma Morwood and (instrumental) Peter Evans needed to be strict in their marking to determine the winners.

The photo shows, from the left, instrumentalists runner-up Mark Elwis (cornet) (who we saw in the earlier rounds) and winner Peter McNeill (French Horn); vocalists runner-up Marcus Swietlicki and winner Naomi Anderson. These four will go forward to the District Final on March 6th at 2pm, also at Heriot-Watt.

Worthy winners indeed, though I had hoped Fraser Jamieson would be recognised for his expressive piano playing, Ben Muir for his expertise on the bagpipes and Aiden O'Brien for his exuberant rendition of Reviewing the Situation.
