Old Friends

This is Margaret on the left and Betty on the right. They are both widows and have been friends over 70 years. Margaret is extremely deaf and even with her whistling hearing aids relies on lip reading. Her daughter in law who is soon to become a grandmother for the first time has been diagnosed with cancer and the hope is that she survives long enough to see her grandchild. This is so heartbreakingly unjust to Margaret. Betty is 92 and has Alzheimer's - yet they rub along well together. Their friendship has endured and in their own individual ways - still help and support each other. The simple images are often the most powerful. Peter May wrote beautifully about this illness ( Alzheimers)in the Lewis trilogy and it was of immense interest to me.
These two ladies are an inspiration to me. Betty is my mum.
