Brendan at Finbarr
I had the privilege today of being with three classes from our parish schools and their teachers on a pre-Confirmation retreat day at Gougán Barra (near Ballingeary, Co Cork). It was a beautiful day. Spring sunshine surrounded us and the place oozed peace and calm.
The photo is of part of one of the stained-glass windows. This is dedicated to St. Brendan, the Kerry man who local history believes got to the 'new world' way ahead of Columbus! Sure, he had to — wasn't he born in the Kingdom!
It seems that he went west, while Finbarr navigated eastwards to what is now Cork …
