Independence Day

Today I was going to experience 4th July American style!

We started by heading to the next state of Wyoming and to the town of Cody, famous for being the home of Buffalo Bill, as well as housing bars with bullet holes from Butch cassidy and the sun dance kid etc. We went for lunch and a look around the shops before heading to my first ever Rodeo!

The rodeo kicked off at 5pm and I well and truly felt like I was out of place being an English woman surrounded by highly patriotic Americans on the day they escaped us.....?

Once I'd gotten over that one the event started properly with a variety of stomach turning events:

?Bare Back Riding (trying to stay on for 8 seconds whilst the horse tried to buck them off)

?Bronc Riding (same as above but with a sandal)

?Barrel Racing (womens event, racing the clock round 3 barrels)

?Steer Wrestling (where the cowboy has to dismount and wrestle a steer to the ground)

?Calf Roping (the cowboy lassos the calf and the horse controls it whilst the cowboy ties the legs together)

And finally.....

?Bull Riding (a crazy assed event where the cowboys need their heads examining! The aim to stay on for 8 seconds without being squashed, involves the rodeo clowns who distract the bull so the cowboys can escape to safety)
