Mississippi Calling
*backblip*
Another beautiful blue sky day in Memphis got us up to go for a morning walk and breakfast at the Blue Plate Cafe where I got some yummy yummy french bread.
Most of this day was spent in the car as we drove through Mississippi to Louisiana for the final stop on this trip - New Orleans! excited!
I wasn't sure what to expect of the drive as I had read that this was one of the poorest states in the US but the road and drive was so pretty. We stopped at the Mississippi welcome centre where they could not have been more warm and welcoming offering free coffee and advice in where to stop in Mississippi if we wanted to have lunch - lovely people. It all comes back to this thing about people in the South being so freaking friendly.
When we did finally arrive in New Orleans, the streets were already starting to shut down in preparation for some of the parades for Mardi Gras that were about to start. We had our first walk around the area and French Quarter having a sneaky peak in at Bourbon Street knowing the Thursday would be the quietest of the weekend. This was still not a quiet street at all! There were bars that have tonnes of vats of alcoholic slush puppies and then of course, another shot of vodka for a few dollars. Yes I did have an apple flavoured neon green one and it was pretty tasty!
First experience of the parades was fun also and Steve managed to catch quite a few beads for me :)
