Euonymus japonicus

I was cutting up some wood today to compliment my huge but slow-seasoning pile of Holm Oak. I was really struck by the creamy white timber of the euonymus japonicus  - the Japanese Spindle or Laurel - that is used around here for hedging, it being salt tolerant.

Apparently it was used to make pegs and, when  immature, artists' charcoal.

I sawed and chopped up various bits of seasoned Holm Oak, Sycamore, Monterrey Cyprus, Hazel, Maritime Pine, White Oak, and Wild Cherry. Lots was wet from lying out on the ground but hopefully it will dry quickly in this nice cold dry air.
