"The tide is high"

So sang Debbie Harry and that tide was well high this afternoon when we dropped in to South Alloa. Just across the river from Alloa proper (On the south side of the river, logically) but no bridge spans that gap, not any more. The piers of the old railway bridge are still there, as can just be seen in the photo above. The bridge was abandoned by British Railways following the Beeching plan. Cheers, Doctor B! Despite the possibility of creating a footbridge, the decking was removed as being too expensive to maintain. An idea before its time, perhaps. Maybe "A Bridge too Far" would be a better title?
Today's extra happened when I swung the camera some ninety degrees to the right. There is an island, Alloa Insch, in the river which used to be a working farm, complete with farmhouse. It seems now to be more of an old ship graveyard. Apparently, creaky, leaky old boats are just rammed up on to the mud and abandoned. Sad, really.
Have a lovely Valentines weekend, blippers all.
