Stained glass window
Our Susan and her camera struck out this Wednesday to St Giles' Cathedral and snapped this gorgeous stained glass window, among other things. It commemorates the life and achievement of Robert Burns. According to one of their lovely guides, the three segments represent three aspects of Burns's life. The lush greenery at the bottom represents his background as a farmer. You can also see his silhouette in the middle and his signature underneath. The middle section represents the circle of humanity and his life as an intellectual. At the top is a beating red heart which is also a flower, linking again back to Burns's life as a ploughman.
There is also floor tile (not pictured) which reads 'This window celebrates ROBERT BURNS poet of humanity (1985).'
There's much to see of a literary nature in St Giles', as well as a lunchtime concert series offering treats for all ears...
