PYRAMIDAL

The orchid family is a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants with colourful and fragrant blooms. it is one of the two largest families of flowering plants.

The number of orchid species equals more than twice the number of bird species, and about four times the number of mammal species.

The Pyramidal Orchid shown here, Anacamptis pyramidalis, is an herbaceous perennial plant. The name Anacamptis derives from Greek meaning 'bend forward', while the Latin name pyramidalis refers to the pyramidal form of the inflorescence. Just managed to capture this as the road verges were cut last night ! Fortunately these flowers were high enough up the banking to remain intact.
