Acer Palmatum
I have been working on this plant, developing it into a bonsai for 4 years. It is an Acer Palmatum or a Japanesse Maple. It is characterized by a leaf with 5 fingers, that turns red in the fall and cold weather. This branch was air layered from a tree, then nurtured and trimmed for 4 years with the goal of developing and fattening the trunk.
Now, there is a twin trunk growing that is getting ready to sprout buds that will become branches. Bonsai's are never done because they are a living, growing and developing plant that can get to 1-200 years old. This one tree will be ,maybe a foot tall, for now, but could get as big as 2-3 feet, or more in time. It comes from a tree that can be 25-35 feet tall.
