WWI Grave
Many years ago I indexed all of the gravestones in Wilnecote Old Cemetery. There was no access to all the online information we have now.
I now know, from online research, that this soldier was called Leonard Wallbank. He was a former miner. His father was John Wallbank, who lived at number 50 Ahsbourne Terrace (in Smithy Lane) , Wilnecote. Leonard's record shows that he spent 10 days in the 'West General Hospital', Manchester, before he died of the gunshot wounds he received in France. His body was returned to his family, and they wrote thanking the authorities for the return of his body.
Now when I pass his grave I'll know a little more about him.
