Huddersfield Narrow Canal
The Huddersfield Narrow Canal runs for 20 miles between Huddersfield in West Yorkshire and Ashton under Lyne in Greater Manchester it was completed in 1811 and closed in 1944.
After 27 years of campaigning and restoration by the Huddersfield Canal Society the canal was fully re-opened to navigation in 2001
The summit of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal is the highest navigable waterway in Britain and the Standedge Tunnel on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal is Britain's longest canal tunnel.
