Monument Valley
Do you remember the John Wayne movies? Well my son took me on an amazing 6 hour road trip from Nevada to Utah, across the desert to the land of the Navajo Indian tribe to where Monument Valley suddenly rises before your eyes. It was here that many John Wayne movies were staged and it is an awesome sight. We arrived at sunset and took some photos then checked into an apartment just five minutes away in a nearby former trading post and then went out again at 11pm specifically to take this shot of Monument Valley under a full moon and with brake lights leading up to the famous structures. Unfortunately there were no cars around so eventually my son left me with his camera, poised and with the correct settings, and then he drove off into the distance so i could snap the image we wanted. For a full five minutes I was left alone beside the road in freezing conditions, minus 9, in the middle of the vast desert. It was so special and it was definitely one of those YOLO moments - You Only Live Once!
