The Lister Lion
Shibden Hall, Halifax.
This stone lion, carved from millstone grit, incorporates the coat of arms of the Lister family who lived at Shibden for 300 years. The lion was created for Anne Lister in the 1830s as part of widespread improvements and alterations to the Park.
The sculpture was stolen in 1996 but was tracked down to Sotheby's in Sussex and brought back to Shibden. The restored Lion was unveiled by the Duke of Kent on 8th May 2008, marking the completion of the Shibden Park Restoration Project.
