Fishing boats on the lagoon at Jaffna
I cycled from my guest house down to the sea to check out the coastline. Near to the old fort which guards the sea approaches to the city is a thriving area of fishing boats. An army post guards the coastline. The war still seems to have an influence here, although I felt safe enough. There were Christian statues and churches nearby, and in the neighbouring village, despite this being a predominantly Hindu area of the country, with India just a few miles away across the straight.
