Snowing....again!
What a difference from yesterday - big, fat flakes of snow have been falling all day. You can even see them in this photograph, as they were blowing onto the lens. I doubt many people are skiing in this weather, we certainly aren't. Instead we went for coffee and delicious gluten free Marroni Kuchen (chestnut cake) - my legs are still feeling quite worked from yesterday's challenging ski back home!
It is back home tomorrow and we have a very busy weekend. We will be up at 5am to drive back to Zurich to get the flight home, and I hope it is not delayed (as it always seems to be these days, thanks BA) as when we get home we are unpacking and then repacking an overnight bag and going up to Cambridge.
The older universities in England (Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and Royal Holloway - and some others, although they are known by a different term) hold Formal Hall once or twice a week, where the student has to dress in formal attire, often with academic gowns, and sit down to a formal dinner. I think the purpose is to educate the students in some social skills and for the students and academics to interact. Once a year, Adam's college (as do many of the others) invites parents to attend Formal which is tomorrow night. We will be sitting with Adam and his girlfriend and her parents, so it will be good to finally meet his new girlfriend. It is not compulsory for the students to attend Formals, and many don't as the meal can take most of the evening and they don't always have time for it. However, although it costs more than their usual rate for supper it is usually a bargain as they get a really delicious multi-course dinner.
On Sunday Adam has asked if I can take him shopping for a few things that he needs, and then after an early lunch we will return home. A student always needs stuff - groceries, clothing, etc and feeding so we cannot leave before taking him out for lunch! We need to leave Cambridge in time to fetch Murdoch from his holiday hotel, I have really missed him.
