TOM CREAN.
He would have been very amused to have a beer named after him. He ran a pub in Aunascaul in Kerry which he named The South Pole. He spent more time in antartica then scott or shackleton. Scott did not take him on the last leg of the journey to the pole. He never came back. Shackleton on the other hand never left him out of his sight . They crossed the South Atlantic from Antartica to South Georgia. They then crossed South Georgia on foot in the freezing cold. to get help from the whaling station.
He came home and set up the pub and then got appendicitas which killed him.
I came over to Boston to meet my relations and here is one in "spirit".
There is a book published called Tom Crean ANTARTIC EXPLORER.
