Life though my lens

A View To Behold

Stuart and I started our day by heading into the small town of Te Anau to stock up on our supplies for the journey into Milford Sound. We were planning on spending the next three days there so we needed fuel and food to last us through as shopping and fuel options were very limited in the national park. After stocking up we saw that the local cinema was showing a 30 minute showcase of Fiordland National park, with most of the cinematography done through helicopter flights. We got tickets and sat watching the film, excited about what we were going to experience in the next couple of days and enjoying only spending $10 to see Fiordland from above.

After the film we headed towards Milford Sound, on the only road in and out of the park. We stopped at numerous scenic spots along the way such as mirror lakes, the chasm and homer tunnel to take photos and admire the stunning scenery. We finished up by pulling into the Milford Sound car park, taking a walk about to discover where we needed to head the next morning for our pre-booked cruise and to scout out the local information centre for information on the park. It was luckily a clear day and it was possible to see Mitre Peak from the boardwalk around the head of the Fjord.

Satisfied, we headed back along the road to the nearest DOC campsite to Milford, Cascade Creek, where we spent the night with gorgeous views over the valley.
