Kelter Well, Clifton

Stopped on my way into Penrith to blip this well by the A6. I can't find out why it is called 'Kelter' other than kelter is apparently an older dialect version of 'kilter' for being in good health or good condition, in balance.

It has steps (extra) leading down to a flowing well at the bottom which is covered by this heavy metal grid now.

The sandstone memorial behind marks the fact that this is considered to be the site of the last battle on English soil between the armies of Charles Steward and the Duke of Cumberland.
