An unusual place for a church porch

This is Christ Church United Reformed church on Carleton Street, Castleford, West Yorkshire. The Entrance is sandwiched between a computer store and a fast food/deli. I can't find out why it is like this, but the date on the entrance porch  is about 1936 so I presume the shops were build later as they look more modern in their fronts. Of course there could always have been shops on either side just the earlier ones demolished or renovated. Next door on the right is an oldish building belonging to  Barclays bank, but on the left a very new one belonging to Wilkinsons. This entrance is very easy to miss I only noticed it a couple of years ago and I have been shopping in Castleford for years.
