Astley Mining Museum

Our short visit coincided with that of a local Steam Punk group, dressed in their finery and happy to have their likeness taken.  Poignant to see the old mechanisms and read of the lives of the miners, so much of this remembered from my childhood.  This is the only Pithead that I know of now in the region of Lancashire - when my dad was a kid there were hundreds - how life has changed, much of it for the better.  But the old communities have gone and that's sad.  A few more images here for those looking for a bit of nostalgia  : )
