Weights and immeasurables.

I think most of us are aware that "them over there" never got around to inventing the "Stone". In consequence they don't have any 20 stone men, or 10 stone women - they are 140 pounds or 280 pounds. Similarly they have neglected the "Ounce", why else would all their recipes be in cupfuls?

Be that as it may  - How come a tiny little Island like ours has a pint which when measured metrically is 568ml (to the nearest whole ml) compared to that HUGE country's mere 473ml?

All beside the point.
WHAT is the point?

It's this:- All my adult life "we" have had 
2tsp = 1dessert sp
2dsrt = 1 tbsp.
I follow American logic in that a table-spoon is used for serving and, logically, called a "Serving Spoon" whereas a "Table Spoon" is the one you use at the table to eat dessert etc. with.

What I didn't expect was for the actual volumes to be altered. I am now wondering who's spoon sizes we have changed to?
Our old measuring spoons, replaced due to extremely tatty spot welds breaking were:-

Table spoon - 15ml
Dessertspoon - 10ml - NOT half aTablespoon and neither of us had noticed.
Teaspoon - 5ml - half the above.
1/2 tsp - 2.5ml - half the above.
1/4 tsp - 1.25ml - half the above.

The newer, one piece ones go:-
Table - 15ml
1/2 Tbsp - 7.5ml half the above.
Tsp - 5ml NOT half the above.
1/2tsp - 2.5ml half the above.
NO 1/4 tsp - 1.25ml - theft from old set.
