GRANDFATHER GAWN

My blip today is of my grandfather Benjamin Augustus GAWN - of whom I am very proud 

Grandfather crewed in the famous America Cup Races before WWII 


Yachts would sail out to America with their tall seagoing mast - which would then be changed to a racing mast for the America Cup  - Grandfather was presented with a Shamrock pin by Sir Thomas LIPTON  - he crewed on many other famous yachts of the time - his everyday occupation was that of a fisherman owning his  boat - TURKISH KNIGHT
