Ancestors
Today's mono Monday challenge set by MrsLinda I expect there will be lots of blips of cemeteries - mine is no different EDIT: not so; mostly family photos and mementos.
I think of ancestors as being those unknown forebears beyond my grandparents. I know very little about my grandparents; I knew only my father's mother who died when I was about five years old. My maternal grandfather was a wheelwright in Gloucestershire; my paternal grandfather was in the RAMC during the second Boer War in South Africa and afterwards a postman in Oxford. I calculate my grandparents were born around about 1880.
I wondered around the Springerville cemetery contemplating the possible life-stories beyond the headstones and unmarked graves. I thought about the world population. I thought about how I rarely think about my ancestors. I'm curiously incurious. There are no graves for me to visit. My immediate family live on in my heart and DNA. And when I am gone?
The extra shows one of the headstones that hide a heart-wrenching story.
