The Red Rose

Andy, Bruce, Chris, Martin and I met in Dalton Square, Lancaster today for our latest superlative walk. We were joined for the first time by NLN and IW Charters.

By special request, I am telling the story of the walk. We climbed the hill to Williamson Park and visited the Ashton Memorial, said by Pevsner to be the "grandest memorial in England" with "no utilitarian purpose whatever."  My blip today - the red rose mosaic - is best viewed from the balcony of the memorial as are some fine views across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland fells.

We then walked through Scotforth to another great viewpoint, this time looking down on to the Lancaster Canal. We followed the towpath back to the City and climbed up to the Castle, where the exciting news is that Sunday Lunch is served on "Saturday's."

Thence, back through the historic city to conclude the walk near to yest another superlative.
