The further adventures of the huge ant civilisation in the compost bin.

After noting it a few days ago, I soaked the compost, since ant nests are a sign that the heap is too dry. In response, the clever little things moved everything out of the dampness and up to the surface. Perfect macro fodder! :)

The winged females have still not flown, and the workers are still tending to these pupae; when I lifted the lid, they started frantically moving them out of the light.
One good thing about the ants is that they do aerate the compost, but I fear that if they get another few month's undisturbed growth, they may develop the internet and a nuclear capability; then we'll be in trouble...
