Bridge of Sighs

Unusually quiet this evening as throughout the day it had been a struggle to get between the very annoying selfie-sticks being touted around so I took my opportunity!.

Designed by Antonio Contino this white limestone bridge was built at the beginning of the seventeenth century. It spans the Rio di Palazzo and connects the prison to the interrogation rooms at the Doge's Palace.  The name 'Ponte dei Sospiri' or better known as the  'Bridge of Sighs' comes from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice. Beautiful it surely is!

A great day travelling into Venice by water taxi from Choggia and then onto Murano to see the glass factories. Hubs got a tad carried away a bit I feel in one of the glass shops!

A back blip.
