Local Windmill 'De Lelie' (the Lily), Leur

Discovered that the nearby village of Etten-Leur has not one, not two, but THREE windmills! -- one in Etten, two in Leur.  You can see again how close the houses are.  Hubby thinks that the houses were built so close to it because at one point, the windmill must have been close to being torn down and no one had anticipated it being renovated.  And then the renovations began but by that time, the houses were already in place and could no longer be relocated.

This is the one in Etten.

I looked for the other one in Leur and notice that I haven't blipped that yet.  I have already shot it, though, for myself.  So now I have an excuse to shoot it again to post it here.  Maybe tomorrow, if the weather is just as good as it was today?

The MOOC course on Agincourt started last Monday and I have completed all the assignments for week 1.  Very very interesting.  Learned about the Hundred Years War, complete with what led to it, starting with William the Conq's 1066 victory and a rough review of the Anglo-French relationship at the time.  Recalled what I knew of the English monarchy in the medieval period (you know, Henry II, Edward III and all that jazz).  Ended up memorizing the series of successors from the Plantagenets up to the Tudors but I am also now motivated to review each ruler separately.  You know what makes it complicated?  You guessed it ... the wives!  Because very often, they married second, third and fourth cousins (you know, to make sure the family estate stayed within the family).  Not only that, they spent loads of time plotting to overthrow each other.  And then the French Connection plays a rather prominent role when there are estates in France as well, which need to be defended ... plus the fact that a number of the queens and mistresses were from the French nobility.  All that aside, it appears that the payrolls from 1320-1360 are still in existence and are partially digitalized, as are the muster rolls of everyone, literally everyone, who took part in the Battle of Agincourt.  I have looked up Agincourt on the map and it's actually quite close to Lille and Calais, a mere 3-hour drive away.  Waiting for warmer weather now so I can take a look at that battlefield.

A BIG THANK YOU to you all for dropping by, commenting, and leaving stars and hearts.  My attention isn't all here, as you might have noticed.  I guess the 'big event' on 1 March has been weighing more on my mind than I thought.  Hubby called social services today and they agreed that something had gone wrong and that it will be looked into within 24 hours, so that might be solved.  Just too many things in the balance now and we are both rather restless and looking for a distraction.  This spring break couldn't have come at a better time.
