Flying Scotsman (Take 2)
Thanks for all the comments, stars and hearts on my Flying Scotsman Blip yesterday!
Warning: Rant ahead! After seeing the Flying Scotsman travelling down to London yesterday, today it made its Inaugural Run to York. I went up to Holme Crossing to see it; it is a good place for pictures as steam trains usually stop for water there so it is working hard as it accelerates away up a slight incline. I've seen several steam trains there but it was much busier than normal - I would estimate about 20 times as many people there than I normally see. It was about twenty minutes late reaching us because some incredibly stupid and selfish people had strayed onto the track at St Neots to take photographs which meant all services on the main line had to be suspended. Stupid because not only did they delay all the trains and endanger their own lives, they endangered the lives of passengers and crew not only on Flying Scotsman but any other train which might have been passing by. And selfish, because at a time when one operating company has had its licence to operate on the main line suspended due to safety breaches, an incident like this is all the authorities need to ban steam trains from the main line altogether, so then no-one would see them. I can only say that I know these would not have been genuine railway enthusiasts but people who had just turned up for a look; genuine enthusiasts know only too well that trespassing is unforgiveable and will actively stop people from doing it if they see it.
Anyway, rant over. Afterwards we had a drive over to Cambridge for a look round and some lunch. All in all, a good day.
