A small step forward for unhoused people

The "camp" for unhoused people which was established during the Occupy movement, which I blipped here in 2012, has been a great success for the people who operate and live in it. It has been such a success that our city council has now decided to move it to a permanent location near the new pedestrian bridge and to build toilets and showers for people who live there. The residents of the camp named it Right To Dream Too (R2D2) and are relieved that they will at last have a place to live where the police will not harass them, threaten them, or take away their belongings. I wish more for the people of the camp: health services, mental health services, indoor housing; but this is a step in the right direction. Toilets and showers will be a big help. We still have a long way to go, to care for the people of our city who continue to live outdoors.
