Exit left
This Australasian Coot objected to my presence and swam away in the stillness of the creek, passing through the reflections while creating its own.
Today I also exited left. The stage for my work these last two months has been with the community mental health team for North Shore. I fed back into work gradually; a day here a couple of half days there. Full time the last three weeks. Today was the last day with the team, as I am needed more in the inpatient unit, it seems.
Community psychiatry is something I began doing many years ago, and was instrumental in the development of one of the two first Community Mental Health Centres in Auckland. Even then my first priority was inpatient acute treatment, and I ended up working in that area more or less continuously for more than 25 years.
Consequently, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the work over these last couple of months. It helped that I was working with competent and pleasant colleagues. That they made obvious their appreciation of my work undoubtedly also helped.
So, I also exited left this afternoon, with some sadness and anticipation for a new challenge.
