Heading Out For Another Stick

The bald eagles were busy again today gathering nesting material to build their new nest that blew down over the winter.  It is hard to really make it out (therefore no nest photos yet), but we can see where they are working.

It's so interesting to see them gather and groom the sticks, clipping off the side shoots.  Then they also pick up softer nesting material like moss, from the wetland floor, to fill in the holes in the nest floor.  It is so much work -- you can see how long it takes, and how many trips they must make.  Apparently they can quickly build a nest in about a week, although they usually spread it out for a longer period.

Check out my other photos from today on flickr.
