Results Day
In to work early to make sure I was ready for the visit from the external examiners. All the marks are in for the final year students and they just need to be checked and ratified by the external examiners.
I was on call all day to deliver any missing information and to explain a statistical analysis I'd done on the performance of the final year cohort. The examiners were lovely and very complimentary about the organisation and thoroughness of the marking.
I got to talk to them over lunch and then they told the departmental staff what the final results were. We then had to get them typed up, checked and checked again and then posted on the noticeboards for the students to find out their final marks.
It was so emotional seeing the students working out what they'd got (no names on the results sheets, just their student numbers - a big change from my day).
We were just getting ready to pack up when a student and her mum arrived in a great hurry, They'd got stuck on the M25 and were worried that they were too late to get the result. The daughter realised that she'd got a 2.1 but had to get us to double check as she was so nervous. She, and her mum, were thrilled to bits and she can now take up her dream job on an African Game reserve.
A gruelling but emotional day.
