Antietam

Beautiful warm sunny day for a drive into rural Maryland.  We returned to Antietam, scene of one of bloodiest battles of the Civil War.   Faithfully documented and maintained by the National Parks Service the Dunker Church, cornfield and Burnside Bridge are evocative and help one get a sense of the battle.  The photos of the dead on the Sunken Road changed the way battles were reported for ever.
