Leaving
Today has been the first day of a five month locum position in the inpatient unit. Different imperatives control the nature of the work. The most immediate is that of abrupt responsibility for the care of nearly 20 patients, all part way through an episode of care, and not previously seen by me. By the end of the week I should be up to speed.
The weather has been foul all day, so no lunchtime walk (had I had the time). I was anticipating seeking to find a subject around the apartment when I got home from work. I went to the staff tea room to wash out my coffee press and mug after the day's use, when I saw that the "Rescue helicopter" on the pad between the main hospital and Lake Pupuke had its rotors going.
Preuming it was about to leave I got my camera (the office they have put me in is very close to the tea room, assisting in the coffee intake), and waited. And waited. Eventually it rose into the air, and I had my blip for the day.
Although this is also a photograph of a second volcano, I have a thought for a better view, and I will defer information about it until then. Sufficient to record that the lake is very deep, and has no inflow but rain and the run off from rain.
Note the sculler mid lake. Pupuke is better known as the training base for canoeists, but many rowers also train here. Also, on the far shore is the Pump House, now a music venue, and once the site of the pumps that took water from the lake for the residents of North Shore.
