dying scarab
I found this beautiful dung beetle on a forest path. The front feet and antennae were still slightly moving, but I think it was dying. Unless it was playing dead.
It had it's belly covered with tiny mites that hitch rides from dung beetles to move from one dung to another.
I think it is a Geotrupes stercorosus, which approves not only cow dung but also carnivore and human shit, carcass, and other rotten stuff as food. Quite valuable creature.
