Cuba day twelve - Trinidad
Despite last night's exuberance, I managed to get up early this morning (leaving Michael in bed!) to go for a walk around Trinidad. Trinidad is beautifully preserved (although some parts were very run down) Spanish colonial settlement and a Unesco World Heritage Site, and I absolutely loved it. Especially just wandering down the cobbled side street and watching the early morning goings on of the locals. After breakfast, we had a walking tour of the old town and visited the Museo Histórico Municipal where we went up the tower for an amazing view over the whole town.
I could happily have spent days in Trinidad, just wandering around taking photographs. If there is anywhere in Cuba that I wish we'd stayed longer, Trinidad was it. But unfortunately, after a late lunch (and the best seafood paella I have ever had), it was time to head off back to Jibacoa. We stopped off at Santa Clara on the way back, where we had a quick look around the city and visited Che Guevara's Monument and Mausoleum and the Armoured Train Monument. A whirlwind two days, with so much packed in, but definitely worth it.
