Thingvellir

What an absolutely stupendously fabulous day!  Our last full day in Iceland and we went off on a trip to see those things you must see when you come to Iceland.  This is not a mono shot per se.  It is what it is on a day of whiteness an greyness and some very tricky light.  It all seemed very bright but the camera was telling me that it wasn't really.  That was in between bright sunshine, rain and snow.  We have visited continental drifts, ancient parliaments, thermal pools, tremendous waterfalls, and geysirs and I love so many of the shots, but this very first one is one of my favourites.  I really like the morning light and the river and the lake and the snow...

This was taken in Thingvellir National Park which was the site of the ancient parliament formed in 930 and is where there is a rift between the continental plates where the earth is moving and doing all sorts of strange tectonic things.

The extras are Gullfoss waterfall and the hot spring Strokkur letting off steam.

Up very early in the morning for our flight home.  Big day tomorrow!
