As I pulled onto my driveway tonight my neighbour asked me if I had a puncture. Drat, I had, I could see a piece of metal in the side of the tyre wall. A quick phone call told me that I could get a new one for £111, not the news I wanted after a fortnight's holiday. I drove down and handed over my car key and asked if there was any chance it could be fixed instead of replaced. The fitter removed the wheel & found I had a piece of metal and a nail puncturing the tyre, but neither of them was the foreign body that I'd seen. With three objects in the rubber, I resigned myself to the fact it probably could be repaired. I was wrong. The nail was the cause of the puncture & it was fixable at a cost of only £22, result.
