Rosedale

Wintry showers this morning but nothing managed to stay around. Decided to walk on a walk in Rosedale.

Starting in Rosedale Abbet we headed up onto the old miners railway track where conditions underfoot would be better. Then cut off down to Thorgill and back along a much wetter and muddy valley bottom.

This view was taken above Thorgill looking across to the white miners cottages on the other side of the valley. Many of them are now second homes. I was fortunate that the sun decided to emerge for this shot.

The iron extraction started in the 1850s but by 1929 had finished. The railway track is now used by walkers and cyclists to circumnavigate the dale and to see some of the old mining buildings.
