Waking Up

My grandson usually is asleep when he arrives home with his mother. Today, he woke up, kinda, before we left.

There is an organization, headquartered in Astoria, OR, called Obon Society.

"Souvenirs" from a war, returned to the family of the soldier.

My husband met a friend for breakfast and the topic of books came up. My husband is reading Apocalypse Undone written by a man who was a POW during WWII in the Pacific. As the conversation went on, my husband's friend told about a friend he knew who was helping with the Obon Society and explained the society's mission.

A custom in Japan was the signing of a flag by family and friends that a soldier would take with him when he went off to war. Obon Society is finding these flags and returning them to the owner's family in Japan.
