A Crow's Nest

One of the tallest trees in the Meadows suffered  a massive limb breakage in the recent gales, leaving a huge scar down its trunk. In order to try and save the tree, tree surgeons have spent time high up cutting off some of the topmost branches in an effort to lighten the load on the trunk.

Elsewhere in the Meadows there have been more trees  affected by breakages and disease. It seems that the latest diktat from the cash strapped council has been to save the the tree at all costs even if that means such severe pollarding that what is left looks like a totem pole with short limb projections.
I find this extremely ugly even when some light growth eventually appears at the tips of the sawn off limbs.

We have one such substantial limbless trunk in front of our window. At the top, a fringe of thin twigs has appeared over 3 years which support in the summer, a feathering of leaves, but there is no way it is ever going to look like a proper tree as you can see from my extra image.
