Etroubles

I like life in Alpine, mountain villages, on one level they are timeless and unchanging. However, get below the surface and there is slow but constant change, buildings being modernised whilst still retaining their rustic charm or a new bar or restaurant opening and of course sometimes closing for lack of customers during the off-seasons. This is our village in the Val di Grand St Bernardo, it is very old being on the road to the Grand St Bernard Pass and was a famous bivouac site for Napoleon on his way down from the pass and his invasion of Italy or to be pedantic the Kingdom Of Savoy.
