Lovebirds

I looked this morning and counted 7 ladybirds, I took this photo a bit later and just before another heavy rain shower and I could only see two left. I'm sure these are the same pair which were mating when they came out of their travel tube.

I expect the others have flown off to escape the ants which attack ladybirds to protect the aphids for their honeydew excretion. This is something I have learned this morning. Ant versus Ladybird.

I don't mind that they have gone, I'm really happy to release 50 native ladybirds.
