Begin Afresh
Lent poem today is "The Trees", by Philip Larkin:
The trees are coming into leaf
Like something almost being said;
...
Yet still the unresting castles thresh
In fullgrown thickness every May.
Last year is dead, they seem to say,
Begin afresh, afresh, afresh.
The photo is of my sister and her husband in front of a café in old Lisbon. Hard pressed to think what the connection is - except that, certainly, their having to come to Portugal to visit us, is a fresh start in all our lives.
