Parnassus (again)

I am physically exhausted. The phrase 'make hay while the sun shines' is all very well in regions with crappy weather, but in a region where we have mysteriously missed out on winter altogether (with the exception of a couple of gratuitous days of picturesque snow), the 'Protestant work ethic' is a hideously bad idea. Granted, come Summer, with endless days too hot to put a shirt on, we Mediterraneans are expected to be found snoozing beneath an olive tree during the afternoon, but at the moment, it's not too cold or wet to go outside and neither is it too hot to work. There is no excuse. There are no days off.

Today I have been hacking out concrete overspill dating back several years from a presumably too wet mix which slipped beneath the shuttering and cast a deep scab across the bordering ground. The concrete spilled from a roadway and I am trying to create a floral border. Smashing the concrete into pieces small enough to carry is hard work. Carrying the pieces away is harder. Digging, planting and watering is much easier and more rewarding and I am tired but happy.

I have tried to devote a little time each day to getting to grips with Facebook, though not today. I have tried photographing some of our glorious flowering weeds but the little camera is not happy. I was thrilled that it managed this view of Parnassus this morning – a crystal clear springtime treat (with camera biscuits). The new camera is on order and with any luck will have arrived in time for carnival. It qualifies as a business expense :-) I am happy about that.
