Thank You For the Days ..

Potato Day

The first Sunday in March, that means we are off to Kelso for BOG's Potato Day. ( BOG = Borders Organic Gardeners).

People come from many miles around to buy their seed potatoes - there are hundreds of varieties, and you can pick your own, 15p a tuber.

Kerr's Pink, Shetland Black, Belle de Fontenay, Pink Fir Apple, Ratte, Red Duke of York, and many, many more. Decisions must be made before setting foot in the hall, and strict self-restraint enforced, otherwise the entire vegetable garden will be filled with tatties.

It's not all tubers. The theme on this stall seemed to be 'strange things relating to potatoes'. Wiki will tell you that a man called Cameron shot the last wolf in Scotland, but there's another version which says a Mrs Robertson did the deed with a wooden potato masher. And who knows, this may be it?
