Migrant in Moscow

Final bow

I had to tramp through snow a foot deep to get out of my building and across the city to take the 7.30 Sapsan Express to St Petersburg this morning.  At the end of the day rewarded by this performance of Aida at the magnificent Concert Hall, a part of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Some trivia (it was news to me):  the Mariinsky's original (and current) name comes from Empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Alexander II.

(It was renamed the Kirov for most of the communist era after the Bolshevik politician Sergey Kirov, who was assassinated in 1934 (the theatre's ballet company continues to bear the name "Kirov Ballet" in its international performances)).
