The Bridge...

This is the result of Ewan's 3 week homework project to build a bridge. Obviously I helped him with some of the design and engineering but I was very impressed that he wanted to do the Forth Road Bridge and he put in a lot of work to the individual elements.

What I did want him to know was the mechanics of it so he could explain to his class how it works. He has a clothes line metaphor down pat but it's also quite interesting now that it's fully built. You can put pressure on it and see the different forces at work that show how the bridge holds itself up.
